Varoufakis: “Greece to Have a Deal With Lenders within One or Two Weeks”

I rarely get on taxis these days. Both internationally-oriented Greeks and tourists alike know all too well that cabs in Greece are dirt cheap, compared to say London. Nevertheless, I got no money to throw down the drain and I prefer myself behind the wheel. I am a very social chap so naturally I started chatting with the driver. We talked women, money and politics all in a 12min ride! Somewhere in between he confessed that his trusted sources had informed him about how our dear Finance Minister has close friends high up in German FinMin ranks. Well, not that surprising. Having studied in Oxbridge I am sure he went on pub crawls getting piss drunk with current German decision makers. But let's get to the facts.

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis told BBC that Greece will secure a deal with its lenders in the next week or two, during a short interview.

“The cycle of uncertainty must close,” he said, adding that although a bailout agreement will not be reached at the Eurogroup meeting on Monday, they “will certainly have an agreement within the next couple of weeks or so.”

He also said he remains “the chief negotiator of the Greek government“, and that he will represent Greece at the Eurogroup meeting.

He also dismissed a Grexit scenario and said his relations with European counterparts remain “excellent”.
